Re: Oil filter question

I get my (Mahle) filters from my local motor factor, who charge about the same as they cost on line. Never had any problems... I am sure that Mann are just as good, as are most, so long as you avoid the 'Orange Can of Death' (Fram)!! I have no idea of why the hole arrangement is different, perhaps n...

Re: B6 tailgate handle

Do you mean the outer handle, that is to say the rubberised pad that sits between the number plate lights? b6.png If so, the whole assembly is part number: 1T0827574J or 1T0827574L (there appears to be no difference between the two). NB. On the saloon the handle is built into the VW badge.

Re: Noisy climatronic after re-gas?

This may or may not apply to your car depending on its precise version. Some cars have two electric cooling fans behind the radiator. One of those fans only operates when the AC is on, (NOT in Econ mode), that is to say it is on when the compressor is engaged. It lives very near to the compressor an...

Re: AC Compressor on? or off?

In auto, it stays on continuously. Never switches off so far as I can tell. It doesn’t just cool the air, it also dehumidifies it etc I assume it mixes cooled air with warm air to reach its set temperature. That is how it works on my 2000 SEAT. I have the AC on all the time as much for dehumidifyin...

Does that allow VAG have a sensor coded or do they have a way internally to identify which code is required?
Before you spend more time and money have a word with someone at your local dealer, (parts dept), they may be able to answer that one for you....

Screenshot of the parts page showing info required when buying a new sensor. It looks as if you may need to match a colour code when using a secondhand sensor. It might be worth asking the advice of your local parts dept.

Re: Parts help needed

I missed that...

The part number is actually just 998VAG429. The 8/04 is the production date, not a component of the part number.

That aside, I have found this for you to try if you wish:

Re: Trouble with AC help !

I'm leaning toward thinking the system has been over filled and the AC pressure switch cant cope. This switch is a brand new Delphi and its definitely producing a signal so there's pressure in the condenser. There's also a signal at the compressor power lead although I'd need to check again if this...

Re: Parts help needed

Did you keep the receipt when you last bought them, and if so, does it have the part number? I suspect the number will take the format xxx VAG xxx. If it does, it is not actually a genuine factory part but an item procured and marketed by VAG UK. They used to do the same with mudflaps which is why t...

Re: Driveshafts - Drivers Side vs Passenger side

I am going to assume you mean the outer joint as that is the one that gets most wear. The drive shaft has a groove machined in the splined section close to the very end of the shaft. In this groove fits a C shaped spring steel ring, which is pushed on from the end of the shaft, expanding as it is fi...

Re: Trouble with AC help !

When I got to air con pressure (in bar) it registered zero even though system is charged. It looks to me as if you have found your problem... almost. If the AC system thinks there is no pressure (no refrigerant), it will inhibit the operation of the clutch. You said you have checked the pressure sw...

Re: Driveshafts - Drivers Side vs Passenger side

There are quite a few different part numbers listed for the entire driveshafts, some of which are down to the VIN, as well as between manual and automatic, however, in all cases the left and right numbers are different suggesting they are not interchangeable.

Sorry.

Re: Trouble with AC help !

With the AC on and the engine running is the compressor clutch engaged or disengaged?

Is the car's outside temp display showing approx the correct value?, (if it erroneously says that the temp is below 3 or 4 C, the ac will be disabled as it would be if that was the actual temp).

Hi and thanks for reply I have chance of a box out of a 2005 1.9 tdi saloon not sure what the code is though. Re: Two types of ATE Calipers?

Actually, callipers on ebay are a hell of a lot cheaper than ECP. To ensure you get the correct type, by searching the VW part number, please post the brake option code from your options label in the service record book or the spare wheel well. You are looking for one of the following: PR-1ZC PR-1LE...

I know the thing you mean... there used to be a pair of them on my 2000 SEAT but to be honest they reduced the (already less than wonderful) light output so much that they had to go. It looks as if replacement lenses for the B5 are quite easy to find and quite cheap, so if you suffered a breakage it...

The boot/tailgate lock barrel for the saloon and the estate have the same part numbers so are identical. Have you asked about the price of a new driver's door barrel? Re: Getrag ELN 6 speed box code misunderstanding.

From a parts point of view, ELN is not THE code for a 6 speed box, but it is A code for a 6 speed box.

As well as ELN there are several other codes for 6 speed Passat boxes, presumably the gearing being the main differences, though there may well be others differences of course.

Sorry to cast doubt on what you said, and especially sorry if I am wrong about this, but are you certain it is FHK ?
