Various faults developed
Hi guys, it seems that my indestructible b5.5 130pd avf is starting to play up. First fault is when I start from cold it runs like a bag of nails, smokes and has excess diesel knock. I did think it was the egr valve but after blanking off it still does it  , secondly when locking the car the ...

Re: Air Con Pressure?
Pressure will depend on how much gas is in the system, I just regassed mine and I put about 680g of gas in (a/c machine pipes hold 60g) so 620g in system. I can't be exact on figures but the high pressure side is usually double the pressure of low pressure side (if that makes sense)

Make sure that the allen head bolt going through the body is torqued correctly (27nm if I remember correctly) cos they snap after about a week......like mine did

Re: Ultimate PD 130 full exhaust system.
It should fail MOT without cat as VOSA MOT manual says a reason for rejection is if there is not a catalytic converter fitted where one was as standard, however there are different laws depending on what year your car was registered, confused?? ~x( I know I am...and I carry out MOT's on a daily ...

Re: Old B5.5 but new to me, need some guidence.
My fanbelt tensioner was squeaky too, however the bolt through the middle sheared off 10k miles later
cost £90 for a new belt and tensioner but make sure you follow correct torque & tensioning procedure with the new part, mine only lasted a week and snapped again

Re: Tuning boxes??
Ultimately it all boils down to one thing...personal preference, I picked my box up for £50 used on e-blag and I am happy with it, another person may feel tuning boxes are not for them and prefer to remap, personal preference....oh and cash flow :-? I may if and when funds allow have a remap but ...

I think its a dealer thing, I work for Stratstone Land Rover and the salesmen there are the same, but I suppose they must be when you part with £30k plus for a car

Re: Tuning boxes??
Got a Dragon performance tuning box on mine and its fine. I used to own a Focus TDdi and had the same make tuning box on that for over 4 years, covered 100k miles and I still see the car tooling around now......I think that if you nail the car constantly it will damage the engine long term whether ...

Saggy/soft suspension
Does anyone know a way I can stiffen my suspension without lowering the car (huge speed humps where I live plus I tow a Caravan). At present its like a boat and sits quite low?? but its always scraping over humps and my mudflaps are being worn away

Re: Aux belt tensioner
One week later and its gone again
spoke to VW, tps and a few factors and they all say its common
however none of them can supply a bolt so its yet again a new tensioner. Can anyone advise me if theres any modification i.e tougher bolt or the like.

Re: Aux belt tensioner
I had this exact prob few weeks ago. I think it should come under cam belt change as the bolt gets refitted and its only standard 8.8 bolt very annoying and longish job as ya gotta get the bolt out that's left in its threads, new bolt was 2quid from motor factor

Saturday while driving home from work my alternator light came on & power steering failed, thinking it was just the belt I got a new one without checking what the cause was =; . Just had exactly same problem with mine, thermostat replaced and it now sits nicely at 90 on the gauge and all pipes lovely and hot. I got worried too with the amount of mileage (245k
) but a £4 fix sorted me out
