Missfire with ESP light on????

Right, i've had my Passat for one week and it every day the ESP light comes on the dash and the engine misfires quite bad :???: It's a 130pd. When I knock it off and restart it all is ok again, apart from this the car is spot on for 230k miles :shock: . Its now started bugging me Big time, I can't see anything obvious wrong like worn cam lobes or knackered wiring, can anyone shed some light for me please
Aiming for the moon & back.....hopefully
