Engine light

2011 2l tdi Bluemotion estate.Flashing engine management light, possible cause??
Halfway down the M1 today on a 400 mile round trip, 70 in the fast lane, the amber management light started flashing followed by greatly reduced speed & power, somehow managed to get across to the shoulder after the need to drop right down the gearbox due to it , I presume, going into 'limp' mode.
Having lifted the lid & having a good look around, & NOT really expecting to find anything, which I didn't EXCEPT, the engine-oil dipstick was out of the tube by about 20mm, just off its 'clamp', lifted it & checked the oil, all good, replaced it & 'snapped' it back into the tube, when she who must be obeyed , shouted out that the lights gone out!!

Could it be that the management system somehow monitored the crankcase-pressure & deemed it to be a problem??
Anyroadup, just completed the remaining 300 miles without a hitch, running is back to normal & the dipstick is still in place, just mentioning it in case any others encounter similar events. Weird eh??
