Excessive tyre wear and rear shock advice

Post by dubdentz »

Took my B6 TDI in for an interim service and shocked to get a report back from them stating that the front 2 x tyres needed replacing (1 showing cords). I do visually check the tyres but last done this a few weeks ago.
Had these new Falkens 914's fitted last July and has only done 20k! Not impressed.
I had Falkens fitted to a past car and got at least 30k so is this a Passat thing with eating tyres?
The rears (Bridgetone and Michelin) had been on the car since I bought it nearly 2 year's ago and has now reported excessive inner tyre wear on the OSR the other having 2mm left but all in all, all 4 will now need replacing. Just goes to show that an expensive set goes longer in this case as I have covered 30k since owning the car (1 year 8 months ownership).
Am looking at 4 x Avons ZV5's if anyone has good/bad experience with these as a mid-range and what kind of mileage can I expect out of these before shelling out £88 per tyre? Current replacement size is 235/45/17W and don't know if I need XL (extra load) ones.
Lastly the rear shocks have now got a leak so will need replacing too. Question is, should I take the plunge and replace all 4 including springs and go for lowering springs as plan to keep the car for another 2 years?

Any advise good/bad or indifferent welcome - Gonna be a wallet drainer! x_x
