Just bought a b5.5 passat tdi 130 estate! Poor mpg.

Hi guys after getting rid of my dragon green b4 saloon a little while ago I have made my way back to a passat.

It's a 2003 130pd tdi estate with 130k on it.

Now I've had a golf with the same engine and that returned 50-60 on my commute with ease.

I was expecting less from a larger heavier car but on my 60mph potter to work it struggles to average 40mpg! Last run was 38mpg I think.

That's me sat at 50-60 for 17 miles then two sets of traffic lights before I get to work.

I have been told the timing may be out and this can be checked by plugging the car in and checking some figures.

Does anyone in Leicestershire have VCDS and some knowledge and is willing to help a fellow member out?

Also any other known reasons for poor mpg?
