Cambelt query

Post by liverpoolee »

Hello all,
I have just got myself a 2009 2.0 Ltr highline (140) it has 140,000 miles on the clock. When buying it I was assured the cambelt was done around at 80,000 miles. The car has been on a long life service schedule so it has only got 7 service stamps. The first 3 were done by vw but the last 4 are bosch and just normal garages. At no point is the cambelt change box ticked.
I've been in touch with vw. They said they have no record of it being done. To be honest, buying the car has cleared me out so any cambelt change will have to wait a while( famous last words).
I'm looking for a good indy in Liverpool to maybe shave a few shillings off the vw quote of £429 for belt tensioner and pump.

I'm going to do my own oil and filter change the weekend but that's about my limit mechanically.
Is there a quick and easy way of finding out whether the belt's been changed or not? Was thinking of going to somewhere like halfords who do a free belt check just to find out if it's been done or not.

Any guidance appreciated......lee
