What is it?

I was going to replace a small vacuum pipe on my 1.8t. Basically the pipe runs from under the inlet manifold, along the front of the timing belt cover and down to the left hand side of the engine bay to a 'diverter type' valve in which this pipe is connected to. Theres another two larger pipes connected to the bottom and side which are to do with the turbo/intercooler system. Basically I need to know what this valve is as its broken.
