Update on my steering malfunction message. Since the steering lock module was changed by the dealer for £283:00 the fault has not re-appeared. A word of warning however as I self diagnosed the fault, so saving a minimum £60 charge for a diagnostic check, I was warned if this does not fix the fault ...

ESP/ABS fault warning message
After car sits overnight this message appears as a text warning with no warning light on the dash. Could this be a sign of a failing battery. I have had the car checked out by auto spark with all the fancy Snap-on vw software. Only one message of Low volts 11.8V, the car starts perfectly every ...

Re: Steering lock malfunction light
Well well who would have thought it. latest this morning is "ABS/ESP" fault message, but with no warning symbol on the dashboard just the message in words between the two main dials. I have the feeling it might be low battery volts. Not low enough to start the car though. I suspect a low battery as ...

Re: Steering lock malfunction light
Unit changed today at a cost of £283:00. Still early days. Effectively 2 hr job. Inspection of the car looks exactly the same as before so there can't be much to remove when they remove the steering column. Unless they have done nothing :-) Time will tell, but as you say it should last as long as ...

Re: Steering lock malfunction light
They are not admitting it is a recall fault as it is in America. VW are saying they depend on dealers to report a more than average calls on the fault before they raise the issue with VW. So if we dont call it in they will do nothing. When I mentioned American recall I was told thats America VW ...

Re: Steering lock malfunction light
Since last reply. I phoned up VW and mentioned my intermittent "steering lock malfunction" and without me saying I was asked is it a Passat!. Re: Steering lock malfunction light
Thanks for the reply. My car has the key slot on the dashboard, is this what you mean by IGN barrel. I have scanned for faults using the OBDII port but nothing showing. The fault does seem intermittent, driving me crazy.

Noting you mention VW saying a limited number of cases, do you know if they are they prepared to do anything about it when you have owned the car since new and it is now out of warranty.

Re: B6 EGR valve clean
I have used brake cleaner in aerosol form after scraping off the easier removed carbon using a scraper made from an old screwdriver.
No one has yet answered whether they have removed the EGR valve from the plastic type inlet manifold. Perhaps the car is not that common among forum users yet. My ...

Re: B6 EGR valve clean
cheers, I will try and get that done. One question, does blanking it out does it effect gas reading when they put it on the machine for the MOT. Although my engine is one that has the VW dodgy software and I am waiting for a date to take it in to be reloaded with new software.

Hi, has anyone cleaned the EGR valve on the 110BHP TDI. How do you you get access to the rear bolt holding the EGR to the plastic inlet manifold.
