DSG oil change

Just coming up to the 40K DSG oil change. Dealer price £184 which appears to be to drain, filter change, fill with new. Sounds a bit steep. Is this stuff expensive, the job time consuming or just a profitable job?

Cold feet - no heat in footwell

2012 Passat DRG 2.0 with manual heating controls.

Everything works except there is no hot (or cold air) to footwells. Screen, upper vents OK. Same problem at all fan settings etc.

I think this happened around the time a few weeks ago when the heating went crazy and wouldn't respond to the control ...

Re: How-to B7 headlight bulb change

In case you don't know, VW dealers are supposed to fit replacement bulbs for free, you just pay their inflated prices for the part. But worth it if you are miles from home in a suit!

Dear Mr Willis,

I am writing to you with an update to the current Volkswagen NOx emissions situation and the forthcoming technical solution to correct your vehicle.

First of all, I would like to thank you for your continued patience whilst we have been awaiting further ...

Re: 11 million VWs under review?

From BBC web site, quoting head of VW UK

"About 400,000 Volkswagen cars in the UK will need fuel injectors altered as well as a software fix, its UK boss said. Paul Willis, UK managing director, said that cars fitted with the 1.6L diesel engine would need the physical remedy. Those with the larger ...

Re: Key fob problem

Problem sorted today at dealer. It appears they lubricated the key lock mechanism in the dashboard by spraying WD40 or the like in there. Works fine with both fobs now. Dealer said fob I'd used for 3 years had worn slightly.

Happy, but feeling a bit 'fobbed off'!

Key fob problem

Had an 'interesting' time a few days ago. At the end of a drive the key fob wouldn't pull out of the slot in the dashboard, so I couldn't turn off the ignition.

After trying for a while I used my iPad and I searched for a solution. Lots of posts about waggling the DSG stick, steering wheel etc ...

Re: Cracked windscreen

When the second guy fitted the second much better screen I noticed some black spots on the near side bonnet and wing. The fitter said it looked like the primer used for the screen, tried to wipe it off and it wouldn't. He thought it was splashed there by the first fitter and noted it on the form he ...

Re: Cracked windscreen

Well it's been quite a saga. Insurance co. got National Windscreens to replace. This was done in 48 hours. But as soon as I got in the car to drive home I could see optical distortion, bad enough the driving side but much worse passenger side.

They came out again, agreed it was rubbish, but the new ...

Cracked windscreen

My otherwise perfect windscreen decided to crack today, not a lot but directly in front of drivers vision.

Insurers are getting National Windscreens to replace. I haven't had a screen replaced for 20 years and everything is more complex now. Anything I should watch out for? How easy is it for the ...

Re: Passat SE seats

I'm fairly short - 5 foot 4 - and I find that as my shoulders are therefore low the top of the seat is bending my shoulders in.

I too found the seat uncomfortable for a while until I started putting the back far more upright than I've done in the past. With the lumber support adjusted, and changing ...

TP tip

Maybe everyone knows this but I didn't.

I've been cancelling traffic programme broadcasts by reaching across to the radio and hitting the TP button, not a particularly safe thing to do when driving.

By accident I found that if you press the microphone button below the volume control on the left ...

Re: Air con ineffective

I bought a 1 year old SE 3 months ago. Compared to my old Passat 5.5 it has the manual heating/cooling controls rather than climate.

When we finally got a warm day I thought the air con was under performing too. But turning the temp to full cold and running the fan on max for a few miles cooled it ...

You can recalibrate the tyre pressure warning through the MFD.

My 2L DSG SE seemed a hard ride at first, but comfort was much improved by having the seats much more upright than I'm used to.

Re: Stop/Start clashes with Auto-Hold on DSG?

I have a DSG box. Recently I pulled up at some lights after driving about an hour, and lightly pressed the brake pedal. Fancying a quick back stretch I lifted myself in the seat and wiggled my bum. When I looked up I found I was moving slowly forward, presumeably I'd moved the car enough for the ...

Re: Driver seat set-up

Thanks, hadn't spotted the 2 bag lumbar support control! Checked the manual to see how I missed it and the up/down control is over the page.

I'm finding the backrest side supports seem to extend quite high, and they are very firm. As I'm a bit short - 5ft 4ins - that means my shoulder blades are ...

Driver seat set-up

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum. I've had a B5.5 for 10 years, now traded for a 1 year old B7 2l DSG SE saloon. Lovely car, but as with every car I have owned I find the drivers seat uncomfortable for the first few months until I eventually get used to it and find the best position. It's fine for 30 ...
