Input shaft bearing - help please!

Hello all
I’m now in possession of a B6 Passat with the BKC engine and HNV gearbox. Initially it was littered with all the B6 issues and have ironed some of them out.
I’ve got a distinctive clunk from the gearbox on and off the throttle, most apparent when putting on load by steering left. I’ve narrowed it down to the input shaft bearing - which seems to be a common fault with these boxes. Have any of you suffered with this?
Looking to replace the box with a second hand unit whilst doing the clutch and DMF. Does anyone know what other boxes are a straight swap with an HNV?
