Steering wheel buttons dead, please help!

Hi guys,
The problem I have is the steering wheel buttons do nothing, it been that way since I bought it. I had the car into the garage for a new clock spring but still no buttons working. I have the horn working and no airbag warning light showing. I wonder could it be the actual switches themselves, but strange for both side to be dead don't you think? It was connected to a snap on diagnostic thingy which came up with no error for steering wheel electrics.
I'm lost!
