Smokey & the Faults

Hi all,

Bare with me as I am new to this,

Passat B6 2006 2.0 TDI 170 (BMR)

The past week of driving I have noticed that its is smokey (white) and idle feels slightly lumpy,
smelling the smoke it doesn't smell like excess fuel it smells like oil and quite smelly.
I have read through a few smokey threads on here but i fear i am saturating myself with worst case scenarios so some basic starting points would be good?

Also I used VCDS to scan the car and it brought up some faults:

Address 16: Steering wheel
2 Faults Found:
00895 - Cruise Control Switch (E45)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit
00895 - Cruise Control Switch (E45)
014 - Defective

Address 76: Park Assist
1 Fault Found:
01628 - Sensor for Parking-Aid; Front Mid-Left (G254)
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

So from this and a bit of research i presume that the cruise control stalk needs changing? (I get nothing, no lights when I try and use it)
Parking assist fault is an easy one? check wiring.
