2.0 TDI 170 (2007) Bad exhaust fumes, please help!!

Hi all

It's been a while since ive logged on, but I have a problem (I think). My B6 seems to produce really bad exhaust fumes. When sitting at lights or in traffic I have to change the climate control to recycle the cabin air as the fumes leak into the car.

Whilst loading my car with shopping and the engine running the fumes out of the exhaust are unbearable. I literally choke and my eyes sting terribly.

Even approaching the car from the front you can detect the fumes at some radius.

Car runs smoothly, no warning lights, no problems at all since owning it. Someone suggested checking the EGR valve and pipe for leaks, but I can't see anything and there is little scent of fumes from that area (under front windscreen).

Any suggestions??
