Strange pulsating noise

I’ve noticed a strange pulsating noise, almost like metal on metal in the last week or so. The noise increases in pulsing in time with the engine rpm. The strangest part is, I can only hear it inside the car.

Tried the obvious turning off hvac and stereo etc.

Only noticed after I had my DMF replaced almost 2 weeks ago. Either the previously very noisy DMF masked the sound or something isn’t quite right after the replacement.

Has anyone else come across this or could hazard a guess at what it might be?
