RNS 315 satnav won't reset and is lost

Hi All,
I've recently bought a 2012 Passat Estate, a necessary practical choice after my Audi TT. It's a lovely smooth drive, but there's just one problem - the RNS315 satnav doesn't work. The recent destinations won't delete, and it won't save my home address, it just keeps the previous owner's home address.
I've checked the Info button and there is no GPS fix, it's not detecting any satellites.
Now I realise the easiest solution to that is probably to fit an aftermarket satnav antenna, but my question is, is that going to solve the problem of the destination memory and home address?
