noisey pump or not

Hi I have noticed my in tank pump running as you would expect however I just seem to constantly hear it however in my 3.2 a3 it was a lot quieter,I also occasionally get a diesel exhaust kind of smell in the car on initial start up as the car is due to go in for a service in 2 weeks and have the dsg box whine I wondered if anyone had similar issues ?
