GEARBOX REPAIR KIT

I'm doing a job on the passat I sold last year, gearbox linkage repair kit.Has anyone done it? If so, any tips to ease the job? I've removed gearbox mount from that side and taken out the old cup, but there is a locking flange integral with the cup housing and it's peened over in 3 places, how to straighten is the problem there's no room for tools !!!
