new diesel smoke limits in mot from 20th may

Has anyone noticed the new mot diesel smoke limits coming in on may 20th.,
Have you ever wondered what the number in the square box in the corner of the vin sticker under your bonnet is for? Thats the smoke level of the vehicle when it was new, this is not good news, on my 02 AVF it,s 0.6 thats 5 times lower than the current limit, the new Mot manual coming in on 20th says to smoke test to the level on the manufacturers plate "if you find it on the vehice" otherwise test to the default limit which is currently 3.0, mmmm
