Plenum chamber / battery

hi there, I am new to the forum, and wondered if you can help me please. I have a righthanddrive VW Passat 2.0 TDI registered in year 2000. Saloon version. I have just seen lots of water filling up under the battery on the car, I removed the battery and cleared the 2 draining points which seems to have solved the issue. however as I googled to find potential solutions it seems that my car doesnt have a plastic cover to go across the battery/plenum chamber. I am wondering if maybe it was removed and not put back by a mechanic by mistake, or if the cars of 2000 didnt have the plastic covers? I am concerned that water will run down the windscreen and straight onto the battery..
Any ideas please? thank you in advance
