advice on egr cleaning

im going to take my egr valve off in abit and leave it to soak in petrol for a couple of hours. i was just wondering if this is ok or will the petrol damage any rubber/membrane that i cant see.
iv taken my egr off before and its clean but my eml is still on and iv changed the vacuum hoses.
also after i have cleaned it, can i test my n18 valve by swapping the n18 and n75 valve over??? any advice will be much appreciated
