Valeo Clutch problem

Post by kow »

Just wondering if anyone has fitted a new Valeo clutch to their Passat TDI 130 and had problems with violent clutch judder on take up, making the car undriveable, thought the engine was trying to get out of car, so out came the Valeo clutch

Examination showed the pressure plate not to be flat, and was conical by 0.4mm, measured across inner to outer dia edges
I have recently had this problem and the VW specialist garage who fitted the Valeo unit ended up refitting a Luk clutch and after which the car drove fine

Correspondence with Valeo has resulted in examination of their clutch at manufacturers and they confirm that the pressure plate should be conical, and have sent drawings showing this

We checked original 105k clutch cover plate that was removed, and new clutch plates at motor factors, all were flat
Doesn't make any sense, surely the Flywheel is flat, as is the friction plate surfaces, so why would the cover plate surface have to be conical

The above is a short summary of events
