Windscreen Washer Pump on the blink?

My windscreen washers have developed an intermintent fault, sometimes they spray and sometimes they don't.

When they don't you can just hear a squeel from the washer res area and get nothing from the front or back jets.

So is this the sound of a dying pump or do they usually just pack-up altogether?

Just after some confirmation before forking out for one, Stealers want £45 for a new one and 60p per extra rubber washer.
