Over filled my engine oil is this a problem?

Over filled my engine oil is this a problem?
Just checked my oil on my tdi passat and it was on the minimum part of the dip stick. I just added a litre of oil and now it's gone above the top of the guide on the dip stick by a couple of mm. Is this a big problem?
