EGR valve bypass?

Hi,

I have recently bought a B5.5 130 PD and have heard that you can get a bypass kit for the EGR valve. I understand that the EGR valves on diesels can get really clogged up over time and cause running problems. Can any one enlighten me on whether it is worth getting a bypass kit or just clean the valve out regulrly? :???:
