B5.5 aftermarket HU

Hi All
Have decided to replace my knackered Gamma tape/6 disc dash changer with aftermarket. Have yet to decide whether to buy a double din unit or go cheap and leave the changer in to fill the extra gap.
According to halfords I will need a facia adaptor to go double din and will need a wiring adaptor regardless of HU choice. I removed both units last night using keys cut from an old bank card and it looks to me like the wiring is standard ISO therefore no adapter required. Also I reckon a double din will fit straight in without a facia adaptor as the central divider simply unclips. My only concern is the 'K Line' which I understand is not to be connected to the aftermarket unit so maybe a case of pulling a pin out of the plug on the stereo harness?
Any advice/suggestions appreciated
