Sub/Amp from stock head unit?

Hi All.

I really want to fit a small sub/amp to my W8 saloon BUT I want to keep the stock head-unit and CD changer as they just look neater than anything else sat in the cars dashboard. My girlfriend changed her head unit in the Bora from the VW standard to a Sony unit and it just doesnt look as good in my oppinion.

First question is... Is there anyway of getting a pre-amp output from the Gamma head unit?
Second question is... What wiring route to most people take for the power/rca leads? I look under the bonnet of the passat and its just like a mass of engine and various other bits with no obvious routes out!
