Wipers noisy

Hi
Bought some bosch wipers that sometimes perform very well quiet and you don't even notice them wiping the windscreen.
Other times they are the opposite noisy, sticking and juddering. Is this to do with all the residue on the windscreen or the wiper mechanism .
Any advice....
