Steering column lock defective

Okay so I introduced myself a couple of weeks ago. Have had the Passat 3 weeks now it drives well but I have two niggles...I have had one incidence of immobiliser active and this morning a beep with steering column lock defective. Took key out put it back in and all was well on both occasions. On a scale of 0-10 how worried should I be? Are the two related? Could it be a battery issue or is there something more sinister at play?
