Ecu

I have a petrol 1999 Saloon and the ECU is not functioning properly. I know I shall have to replace the unit, but, in the meantime, the car starts ok but the central locking has packed and only works with the key. Trouble is, the key opens all the doors, but not the boot, so I can't get to the spare tyre, etc. I have Googled how to open the boot, which says about climbing into the boot with the the rear seats down. It says there is a small plastic cover covering a hidden switch, but......there certainly is nothing like that in my boot!
