bbs reps, stud query

After only 6mths on the car (taken off for winter) I've noticed quite a few of the plastic studs have laqure peel around them, this was just a matter of time anyway. What I want to know is can I replace with metal bolts sold on eBay. The current ones are just inserted into a drilled hole. Can these be drilled right through? The alloy seems more than thick enough, has anyone done it!!! I'm wanting to get the lips re polished then gold bolts.
