Rear windscreen washer (but not rear wiper) comes on when front is activated

Hello,
I noticed today that when i activate my front windscreen washers (front wipers come on automatically when you do this as expected), the rear washer shoots water on the rear window, but the wiper does not activate. If I want to wash the rear window it works fine. But it doesn't seem right that if im washing the front window, i get water coming out the back.
Does this happen to anyone else?
