2.0tdi remap? Beneficial? Effects on economy? Problems?

On the 20tdi is a remap benefical? either stage 1 or economy? What effect have you noticed? Are there real world economy changes (for better or worse)?
My worry is that remap will cause additional strain on clutch etc? Do any of the remaps cause issues down the line?
