Machine Polisher .... New to this

Morning all.... Ive never been a one for detailing but I don't might cleaning my car often enough to look after it but my brother on the other hand is quite in to it so its handy as he sorts my car most of the time. Hes been talking about machine polishing and for Christmas I want to get him his first kit....
I know nothing about them other than the prices start at £99 and go up to £500 which I think is silly for his first one!
Any recommendations or tips on which kit or polisher to get?
