Machine polishers...

Post by Aidan205 »

Hi all,
I know that there are a few threads on here now with regard to different types of polishers, and they have given me a vague 'education', i.e. that these porter cable ones are really the business, but theyre expensive and require a 110v cable i believe...??

So my apologies for starting another thread on polishers, but i'm still a little confused over what to buy (i want one as a christmas pressie for myself!)

Now as far as i can see there are random orbitals and these straight angle grinder style ones. I gather that the random orbitals are a better bet as theres less risk of burning your paint away if youre not careful..?
However, all the main motorshops (i was in the big 'H' yesterday) sell 'random orbital polishers' for around £30. Are they any good? Would they still do as gooder or better job than polishing/waxing by hand?
Bearing in mind that neither of my cars are exactly concourse, but i just like them to look smart and shiny! 8) I want to take the effort out of polishing but just dont think i can justify spending over £100 on a specialist polisher...

Any thoughts much appreciated!
