My bro's having problems with his 1.4 Match. Intermittently it won't go into first or reverse gear - other times its fine through all gears. Clutch seems fine, no slipping etc and cable just replaced.

Any suggestions what this could be besides a knackered gearbox!? surely it would be consistent if this was the case.

Obviously he doesn't want to get the clutch done if it isn't necessary...
