Re: Gearbox stiff shifting into 1st and reverse at stand sti
Thanks for the reply! I personally changed the brake fluid two years ago (end of its life now) and only bled the calipers. I was wary of the clutch cylinder because of horror stories regarding the plastic bleed nipple. It was perfectly fine upto and during my use and I can only assume the clutch was...

Gearbox stiff shifting into 1st and reverse at stand still
I left my car with my dad for two years as I've moved to Canada. It drove fine and I put on some serious miles whilst I had it and kept it well maintained by myself and on the rare occasion a garage I know very well would do work on it I couldn't really do. It's a 1.9 TDI B5.5 with the 5 speed manua...

Re: Amazing car! Just drove across Europe and back
On that leg it was 5~6 hours driving in one go but overall higher speeds. The average of that trip was 40's but the 110 and 120's were so brief it made negligible difference to the MPG. Perhaps it was 20's but by the time I got to Meissen in Germany from Poland it was back into the 50's again. I hav...

Re: Amazing car! Just drove across Europe and back
As soon as I was doing 100~110 and 120MPH the MPG dropped to around mid 40's ish, perhaps 43 but I was playing more so than cruising. The run back from Dover with the air con barely kicking in as it was a lot cooler, I had 58 on the readout.

Amazing car! Just drove across Europe and back
Drove from Hampshire to Dover then onto France, Germany, Austria, through Czech Republic to Poland which meant the engine was running continuously for 8 hours and 45 minutes on that leg, then back to Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and then back through France to catch the Ferry home. All in all, 2,84...

Re: farting noise
Hiya, It's the simplest way to disable the EGR. Essentially doing it this way it has the same affect as fitting an Allard pipe which replaces the entire thing but this also removes the piston inside the EGR which is deemed by some as a restriction, in doing so you lose the anti-shudder valve which a...

Re: farting noise
Remove the small vacuum pipe from the top of the EGR and put a suitable sized bolt inside it with a jubilee clip over it to ensure it doesn't come out. Many people run without the EGR working so you can leave the above pipe plugged and it won't affect the MOT or anything. It will however stop the en...

Re: Air con fan now working
I lubed my fan and sprayed alcohol into it and it worked for a time but in the end I replaced it with a B5 fan and swapped plugs. Works fine. Dissected the old fan and the brushes were down to mere millimetres so it had to go, or have new brushes which is doable but I bought a new fan so didn't mess...

Just a plugged hose here. I have plates but never fitted them.
I like my anti shudder valve and have better things to spend my money on than a piece of ££ pipe.

Re: Climate Control
You appear to be talking about two different things? If the pressure switch isn't working, A/C won't work. If the electric fan is not working, the A/C will still work until it gets too hot and switches off intermittently. If the fan does work, albeit slow or high speed, the A/C will work fine. My fa...

Re: cheap cruise control
Definitely can be retrofitted as I did it to my 2003 AWX manual. I bought an official VW stalk and loom kit from eBay from someone who bought it but never fitted it. I only found the steering wheel airbag part the biggest pig to remove. Once that was off ensuring the steering angle sensor does not r...

If it has risen under heavy loads, it's sure to be a failing mechanical thermostat. Cheap to buy and do.

Re: shark fin
You can get adapters but you'll most likely need to cut wires and join them that way. Unless you run a new cable through the car to connect them. I have a shark fin aerial but I must stress, it's absolutely useless! As in it simply does not work! So I have just relocated my old aerial into my front ...

My Sansa Clip MP3 player fits nicely in my ashtray. I have it connected to the radio via the glovebox where I sited my 3.5mm socket in-case I need to connect something larger to my radio, ie my wife's iPod or whatever. The problem I came upon using my Sansa Clip was extreme interference having it po...

Re: Our first long distance journey
If it's anything like mine 130 TDi, the other half of the full tank goes a heck of a lot faster! I did a 1000 mile round trip recently and the second time I filled it I noticed the needle didn't budge at all for miles to the point I was wondering if it was stuck. This was on a good run so getting ar...

Re: Pd130 Wont Reach Temperature
If I recall correctly mine used to show 73/74 on my Climatronic for mine to start showing 90 on the gauge. I replaced my sensor first as it was suggested the newer sensors are more reliable. However, it was my stat that was actually the problem. Mine happily reads 90 on both when given a good run. R...

The smaller width tyres are usually around £10 cheaper as they're more common.
I've stuck to the 205's as it's more rubber on the road. Albeit just 10mm per corner but still.

Adjusting lights for driving on the right
I have a B5.5 that is of UK spec and I plan to do a two week tour of Europe (France, Germany and over to Poland to name a few places). I understand there's a selector inside the headlights than enable a simple switch from left to right hand driving. My question is, once the selector has been moved, ...

Re: Shell V Power Nitro+
250ml 2 stroke to the 62 litre tank is ample. I'm using Nitro at the mo with 2 stroke, it's very smooth. I wouldn't say the MPG is any different to normal Shell but it's very smooth with 2 stroke, possibly smoother than I originally thought. Placebo? But it seems more perky than it did. When I first...

For the 130 PD (including the 2.5 TDi etc) and older engines, semi is perfectly okay and cheaper. Just make sure it's FB or better still, FC spec on the bottle.

Re: New baby not very Eco!?!
Spot on guys, it's at 73 ish even then gauge says 90. Is that generally caused by a faulty temp sensor or the thermostat opening too early? In your case, perhaps thermostat. But diesels take a while to warm as they're very efficient. 73 is low and any lower, will show on the needle. 71~72 I think i...

I had no problem with vacuum with mine but I noticed mine wiggles a lot too so instead of replacing it or waiting for it to fail, I wrapped my stub and pipe with self amalgamating tape.

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..
Regards the colouring of the diesel, again, you'll not notice any difference! The amount is extremely negligible. To prove it, I changed my fuel filter a while back and it looked normal and I've used heavy doses of 2 stroke such as 500ml to half a tank and full tank. I must say, adding 2 stroke to S...
