Turns out, it was a porous head. Engine was scrapped

I’ve attempted to burp it a couple of times as others have described, but I’m going to have one more Hail Mary attempt at it before replacing anything else

I also assumed that if the water pump wasn’t moving the fluid correctly then overheating would be the issue. Replacing the belt and pump are my next port of call, because it’s all I have left really.

I don’t have the details for it the packaging is long gone. Is there a reccomended part to buy and I will replace it again when changing the heater matrix to save having to do another 2 fill and drains of the coolant system? It was a VW part. And the same experience was with both the old and new thermostat. I understand that the thermostat could fail early, but find it difficult to believe with the exact same symptoms
