Re: Which gearbox fits my car?

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but my GFY gearbox on a 1.8t petrol (AWT) is on the way out - does anyone know of an earlier and stronger gearbox that will fit? Many thanks

Re: Kufatec Confusion

Ah, I think this is a bit clearer now. Thanks for input. The diagram is great, thanks very much! So, I think that I would attach the permanent live to 30 on the relay board and ignition live to 75x on the relay board? Then I could either put an inline fuse in for both live wires, or extend both wire...

Kufatec Confusion

Hopefully someone can help me in my fog of heated seat confusion! I’m a bit of a numpty when it comes to electrics. I’m fitting a kufatec heated seat loom but the instructions are really badly translated from German and there seems to be different ideas about wiring it up on line - some people sugge...

Flipping foam grommet

Hi all!

My Passat has leaked everywhere and I’ve fixed them all except the foam grommet behind the kick plate in the footwell - the one that goes around the wiring loom as it comes through metal panel.

Can anyone help me out with a part number?

Cheers in advance

Re: Apart from the usual water ingress places....

Ahhhhh, I think that mine is leaking behind the kick plate from the foam gasket. How is water getting to there in the first place?!

Re: Eibach pro kit v OEM sport springs

Thanks for replies. Oh well, no point changing the springs then. I’ll keep a look out for an S4 ARB. In the meantime I might poly bush the current ARB. Cheets

Eibach pro kit v OEM sport springs

Hi all Advice very much welcome on the following... I’ve got the original OEM sport springs with new Bilstein B4 struts on a b5.5 1.8t. I’m trying to make the handling a bit more controlled without making the ride harsh (it’s the family wagon!) Would the eibach’s be much of difference? Opinions welc...

Thanks for the reply - did you get yours to fold? If so, did you swap hinges on the bottom section? Thanks

I know this is from a while back, but did you get the saloon rear seats to fit?

Advice for 1.8t gearbox swap

Hi all Any help with this much appreciated...... I have a 1.8t ( AWT) with a kn*ckered 5 speed gearbox (GFY). Some AWTs came with the EHV gearbox and they are plentiful From breakers on eBay. They look the same- is swapping GFY for EHV gearbox a straight swap? Same shifter? Same driveshafts? I think...

Gearboxes for AWT 1.8t

Hi all Hopefully someone who is a font of knowledge can help with this.... The gearbox for my AWT 1.8t is on the way out - whining is getting louder ( insert joke here...!). Which gearboxes are compatible with the AWT? the original is a GFY, but these seem to have a bad reputation. Thanks in advance...

GFY 5 speed gearbox - any good?

Hi all! I’ve read lots about gearbox whine on 6 speed Passat boxes ( which seems to be pretty terminal), but less on the 5 speed boxes. Are the 5 speed stronger? My 5 speed has been whining for about 15-20k miles. Whining stops with the clutch pedal pushed in, even if revved. It had new VW gear oil ...

New!

Howdy all! I’ve been the proud owner of a b5.5 1.8t estate Sport (54) for about two years - not sure I would agree much about the ‘sport’ bit.... The car itself is in great condition, and now with 108 k on it. It makes a great family wagon and is an impressive cruiser when we’re on long treks. It wa...
