Re: Fuel Tank Overflow Problem For The Clever Bods!

I spoke too soon! :( The car's still playing up exactly the same as before. I'm sure something doesn't feel right when I lift off the throttle. It's as if there's too much vacuum in the engine. I'm thinking maybe the inlet pipe has got too soft over time and is collapsing although surely that would ...

Re: B5.5 Estate Engine/Gearbox Mount Problem....

Sorry mate, I'm not sure of the best place to get engine mounts for a diesel. I'm getting 034 Motorsports mounts for my 1.8T from AwesomeGTi but I don't know if they do them for a diesel Passat. :-?

Re: 17" or 18" - lower or not lower?

You're only going to get clearance issues if you have the wrong offset or a massively wide wheel. The diameter of the wheel doesn't matter so long as you adjust the profile of the tyre to keep the rolling radius the same. An 18x8 ET35 wheel with a 225/40 tyre is a tiny bit bigger than a stock 205/55...

Re: Fuel Tank Overflow Problem For The Clever Bods!

I took advantage of the lovely weather today and fitted the new crank angle sensor/speed sensor and luckily it was a piece of cake. I spent longer trying to find my overalls (which I never did! :( ) than I did fitting the new sensor. The car seems to be going fine at the moment but I'll reserve fina...

Re: B5.5 Estate Engine/Gearbox Mount Problem....

Hi mate, I've heard too that diesels give SMF's a harder time then petrol engines do. It is very possible your mounts need changing. Mine are gone on my 1.8T and the engine does move around a fair bit but it has done 166k! I've heard it's not too bad of a job to change them. Apparently, after you un...

Re: 1st gear not engaging properly

It couldn't possibly be anything to do with the engine or transmission mounts? SMF's put more strain on the drive train and if your mounts are old/worn, they could be causing you problems. Don't think it'll be the SMF as I've had mine in for 7 or 8 months and it's been fine. When I was a spotty yout...

Don't you need a crank angle sensor first :hyst
In my defense, I didn't know I needed one when I posted this. ;)

Oh, I've ordered a crank angle sensor; it should be waiting for me when I get home! :-bd

Re: Fuel Tank Overflow Problem For The Clever Bods!

I can't remember if you've had the crank angle sensor/ engine speed sensor changed, those symptoms sound familiar. Heat soak eventually kills them off but they die slowly giving starting, cutting out and momentary losses of power like you've had. Cheap enough and easy enough to change (if you have ...

Re: Fuel Tank Overflow Problem For The Clever Bods!

Oh, and I read somewhere about overfilling the tank floods the charcoal canister which flushes a load of poo into a valve and screws that up to but don't know if that's likely or if that is going to cause an issue? :-?

Thanks, although I think my patience is nearly at an end! lol

I think these are the problems you get once you hit 166k! Rather annoying as the car is running perfectly apart from this. ;)

Fuel Tank Overflow/Cutting Out Problem NOT Cured!

Hi guys, I'm in need of some of your expert knowledge, please. A few weeks back I filled the car (B5.5 1.8T) to the brim for a long weekend away and rather worryingly noticed fuel pouring out of the underside of the car around the tank area when I went back to my car after paying. There wasn't a lot...

Re: Drive By Wire Problems............or is it?

I fitted the TB, turned the ignition on to acc and waited a few minutes before firing her up. Surprisingly she started straight up and idled perfectly and drove just like normal. Wasn't expectling that at all. Unfortunately, my mechanic mate was absolutely flat out at work so I have to wait to have ...

Re: Drive By Wire Problems............or is it?

You do know that you can't do a TBA with the free VCDS dont you?? It has to be the paid licenced version, or take it to your mate As a matter of interest, have you changed the coil packs? Yeh, I know. I'm taking it to my mechanic mate who'll do it for me. He's only down the road so hopefully it'll ...

Re: Drive By Wire Problems............or is it?

Interesting thing happened over the weekend. I had to do a 140 mile motorway round trip and the car drove faultlessly, in fact it was perfect all weekend. However, when I got back to normal town driving the problem has started to come back. I now have even less of a clue than I had before. However, ...

Re: Drive By Wire Problems............or is it?

I cleaned the TB today and I'll see if it makes a difference although it only had a small amount of crud built up on it but maybe that's all it need to make a difference? It's been running a bit better recently although still occasionally playing up. If it still happens I'll change the brake switch ...

Re: Drive By Wire Problems..........or is it?

Scanned the car with VCDS today and no fault codes came up. I don't know what to do now and to top it all off it's started to stall occasionally whilst at the lights now. I'm sure it's a sensor but as I'm not getting a code I'm going to change the throttle position sensor and clean the TB and change...

Also....... I know you said it hasn't thrown a CEL but have you done a fault scan?[/quote]

I scanned it with my cheap (non VW specific) hand held scanner and nothing came up but I haven't got Vag-Com or anything fancy like that.
