Re: Passat lowering issues??
Either it is droplink length adjustment issue or the lowering is perhaps too extreme to even have them on. I'd investigate the former option first. It is not the "red" Eibach kit? My EOS was bought with no front ARB nor droplinks with everything lowered quite a lot. It still without the bi...

Re: Disc pads cost
Just to throw in another name I got front slotted rotors from MTEC for far less than respective Brembo's directly from the manufacturers site. This will hopefully expel all the dirt before it has the chance to destroy another set. Changeover is pretty easy. You'll need a few tools for around £20-25...

Re: 235/35R19 Alternatives
There is plenty of space in the wheelarches for the thicker tyres. Mines got 245 40 18 now which is one size up from OE. The speedo is pretty much spot on now, so a 45 may give you a slightly reduced reading!

Re: centre caps
I eventually found some at the scrapyards in Birmingham for a slightly different design wheels. And ended up respraying them because they were in a sorry state. If you already have dodgy ones you might as well start with some sand paper, masking tape, primer, alloy silver paint and lacquer. Do check...

Re: CR 140HP Long life oil?
Decent oil - very close to Castrol LongLife III in spec but not 100% identical. In practice it shouldn't matter. It says long life but I would be very very sceptical about running the car for 18,000 miles when it costs so little. You may get away if you do gentle long motorway runs everyday otherwis...

Re: OEM vs aftermarket springs
If you are only doing rear only a well matched pair of SACHS will be pretty much identical (same as OEM?). Rear shocks are changed separately from the springs so there is no rush to do the whole job at once but it strongly advisable to check them out for sure. --- eibach pro can be had for a lot les...

Stickers take 2 mins to apply and remove.
You can get trasnlucent ones in a shop in Dover within the port (not on a ferry). They hardly do anything at all except tick the boxes.

Re: Estate B5.5 or B6 ???
Thank you for the great info guys ! I will also consider Skoda as well... After lots of reading seems that the 08+ B6 with CR engine 110HP and 5 speed is a good combo ? Also BMM code 8v engine seems like a trouble free engine ? What do you guys think? Thanks ! Avoid BMM engine. In fact avoid all la...

1.9 tdi in b6 has only 105hp not 130 like in b5.5, so I believe he was meaning b6 passat with 1.9tdi for comparison with 2.0tdi Ahhh makes sense [emoji106] 54 Passat Wagon PD175 99’ Audi S4 Avant 2.7 QTO ;) Yes that is correct : maybe the B6 1.9 TDI seems a safer bet ... ??? Re: alloys opinions please
Back to B7 design. I think these eyebrows https://www.magnatuning.com/en/product/17038/VW-Passat-B7-3C-Speed-Eyebrows mostly sort out the looks. It's not ideal but look better and hopefully won't affect the light output? A few other good mods are on the site but all quite expensive for just a bit of...

Re: alloys opinions please
Audi Quattro (the original couple) for sure is a total hit
And I would say Audi RS4 is getting there... there are not many of them.
Audi R8 is no doubt very special.
All were pretty expensive to start with and still are. I can't imagine any passat or regual A4 ever gaining that status.

Re: alloys opinions please
There are too many of the B6 Passats around, so they will never be the classic icon. As a design it was absolutely fine, just like 08+ Mondeos, Jaguar XF (those headlights have similarities with B6), Insignias, etc. At least it was good alround design unlike older E-class mercs (ugly rear) or worse ...

I've done the rear pads myself couple of days ago. £18 for the pads from carsparesltd / similar on ebay £3.50 ceramic grease £6 wind tool from ebay £A-LOT VCDS which I had for a long time already some basic tools Wasn't difficult at all. It took less than an hour. Discs were fine so didn't need doin...

I will maybe start with either purchasing a fully equipped garage or will order a new Tuareg. Probably will work out cheaper.

Re: New shocks: Bilstein B4 or KONI Sport?
Update. It turns out the rear end is responsible for the bigger part of the instability. It is entirely stock, and maybe something is worn out a little again. The rear end easily starts swinging sideways and that quickly knocks out the front end off its tracks. We have Sachs springs (September 2017)...

Re: alloys opinions please
We can at least agree that B8 is by far the best looking passat ever. I really like that styling all round. B6 was very decent attempt too, particularly the R-line and R36 version. B7 is OK if you take at a face value - a decent understated estate or sedan that can do a high mileage and deliver good...

Re: New shocks: Bilstein B4 or KONI Sport?
Standard 17 highline Macau wheels with premium tyres like Dunlop winters - all healthy - and now changed to summer set but it's no better. Pressure is whatever it says on the fuel cap.
This horror stretches over 4 years, 2 cars and many wheel sets.

Re: New shocks: Bilstein B4 or KONI Sport?
genuine question: how do you test for failure or bad adjustment that only manifest on very high load or stress situation like 40-50 degrees + bend at 45-60mph or very bad surface at 25+? I can't make them drive for an hour to countryside and Birmingham roads or M6 just doesn't invoke the faults clea...

Re: New shocks: Bilstein B4 or KONI Sport?
a strip down is simply not going to happen because I simply don't own a garage nor will I pay for a full days of work for this garbage. I had another B6 before. It was just as horrible and unreliable to drive most of the time. I changed like 6 or 7 sets of drop links, 3 sets of shocks, 4 sets of top...

Re: New shocks: Bilstein B4 or KONI Sport?
I think in a way this Peugeot driver is describing a similar experience https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=135&t=1373217 The B4 shocks clearly "at fault" there so probably same with mine for the jumpy ride. So probably KONI FSD or a simple SACHS was the way to go. ...

Re: alloys opinions please
Personally current ones look just fine. The front end is really the weak point of a B7. If a B8 transplant is viable I'd investigate it.
