Re: '98 B5 Budget Build
Thanks! Hardest part was getting the headliner out of the car. 2 hours! But it was only my first attempt at this.crosbyvalet wrote:A very tidy and unique look.
That must have been very hard to do!

Re: '98 B5 Budget Build
Been a while since I've done anything to the 'loon except getting it through the MOT (set of rear shocks and it sailed through). Finally got around to lining the headliner and a/b/c pillars. Absolute pain in the bum to do but worth every expletive. http://i.imgur.com/uumbssk.jpg http://i.imgur.com/h...

Insurance is dangly bits, my 2nd car, a 98 fiesta Ghia 1.25 was £2700 for 3rd party. My Passat is currently £2k for comp. Yet I can have a 2.5l turbo Subaru legacy wagon for Less than a grand fully comp. It's retarded

Re: Insurance renewal - help.
Not heard of HIC and forgot all about AFlux and Chris Knott but I'll try them tonight. I've got 2 years no claims but its on Admirals 10 month accelerated policy. It maybe that Octagon are legit but something strikes me as being off about them after seeing the reviews. For example, the quote they ga...

Re: Insurance renewal - help.
AA and Direct line want £5k and £3.5k respectively. Utter horseshit. I've been using compare the market and money super market and have been getting quotes at around the £1000-£1200 mark. Still a lot but insanely less than what I currently pay. Octagon are super tempting on the price alone but I...

Insurance renewal - help.
Not sure which sub this should be under so here I am. My insurance is up for renewal in a few weeks time and Admiral want a daft amount of money (£1500) which I obviously refused. I've had a quote from Octagon for ~£900 which is the cheapest I've found so far. However, I've seen a startling number...

Got hold of some 16" 5 spokes from an A6 Avante yesterday. Must say it has improved the looks considerably.

Re: '98 B5 Budget Build
Love that. I love the fact you are keeping the steelies and really love the fact you are fitting 'ambers'. Spot on ! Thanks. I've only seen maybe 2 or 3 B5's that don't have clear indicators and I've only seen one on steelies which was american on winter wheels. Part of the reason for those decisio...

'98 B5 Budget Build
Figured I would share my slow to progress B5 Saloon budget build. Picked up my '98 B5 1.8 20v Saloon with 133k on the clock (it now has a smidge over 135k) back in April and it was looking a bit worn/tired: http://i.imgur.com/gvrNDwg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CTuDPdq.jpg Bit of a knock on the rear left...

Center Caps
I'm about to refurb the 15" steel wheels on my '98 B5 and I'm after some center caps that will fit. Something plain/black would be ideal. Does anyone one know of a good place to acquire a set for not alot of money? I've tried searching online but all I get is the center caps for alloys.

Finally got round to doing this. What a b***tard of a job. Whole thing disintegrated as soon as i got near it and left a ton of shards in the metal tube. Half an hour later they've all been fished out and the new guide is on. Stupid location for a dipstick.

Are the light boards not interchangeable? maybe a earth fault, have you tried bending the metal which contacts the bulb to make a tighter connection?? The contacts are good, I've bent the pin in the socket up to ensure the bulb sits on it and made sure that it's properly seated on the board. Still ...

I've checked the middle pins on the plug and the socket, both show a current. The light board has no obvious damage. Stuck for ideas now.

Left Rear Brake Light '98 B5 Saloon
I have noticed this evening that my left rear brake light is out. I've replaced the bulb, cleaned the contact and checked the fuses but no joy. all the other lights in this cluster work except the brake light. Everything on the right hand side still works as normal.
Any suggestions?
