Re: Tandem pump, servo, or hose leak ??

Bringing this thread back from the dead...

I never got round to fitting the pump I bought, before selling the car.
If anyone is interested, it's now on Ebay here.

Re: My headlight clean up....

I did the headlamps on mine a while back (2002 B5.5 - projector lights with clear lenses). The lenses were horrendously pitted, scratched and hazed, it was surprising any light at all came out. Anyway, my procedure: - protect paintwork around lens with a bit of masking tape - rub down with wet'n'dry...

Re: 130bhp Sport TDI (AVF) timing - help please!

May not be related but I'm getting the swooshing noise when accelerating low down and loud dump noise when I come off the throttle (as others have been describing on the forum). Does sound likely a hose has popped apart, or the intercooler has split. Both have happened to me...in one instance, the ...

Re: VW Passat B5 / B5.5 Brake upgrade....

I agree EBC yellow are dusty I have them, but they are the best pads I have had on the car. As good as OE pads when cold but loads more grip when hot. The Yellows do seem pretty good, I'm running them on standard (ie non grooved or drilled) 312mm discs and they do work well from cold. Before them I...

The other option is a stealth EGR mod :) Old: http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4108/4947789326_1c162e4f32_b.jpg New: http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4147/4947181077_62c715ee38_b.jpg All EGR gubbins removed and blocked off, but ASV still functional, a less restrictive airflow....and there are no visible c...

Re: engine tray dropped

I had problems with mine in the snow last year, but I think mainly it was scooping up snow when I reversed, as much as taking it in from the front vents. The rear (gearbox) half has gone completely, but the front half is still on, bit battered and split, but a few strategically drilled holes at the ...

This may or may not be related given the error code you've read, but I'll mention it anyway as some may find it interesting. I used to own a Mk4 Seat Ibiza - fitted with essentially the same PD130 engine as the Passat, and which also shares a lot of other similar parts, including (I think) the same ...

Re: Suspension leg/strut gaiter

If you've got a FWD car, then you don't need spring compressors to get the rear dampers out. You don't even need to touch the springs... Jack the rear of the car up on axle stands so both rear wheels are clear of the ground. Undo and remove the bottom bolt from the damper (may need to support the su...

I think also the 6-speed box has a higher maximum torque input. I think I'm also right in saying that 5-speed TDI 130 engines have a lower maximum torque output than those fitted with 6-speed boxes.

Re: AWX TDI syncro angle question(s)

Driven mine for a few days now, since correcting the syncro angle. I think it has made a small difference to the fuel economy, it does seem to have crept up a little. Also, the engine just "feels" just a touch smoother and cleaner, difficult to describe or quantify but something just feels...

Re: AWX fuel adaption, can you do me a favour please?

I have played with the fuel temp sensor resistances and have had the trip computer showing 70mpg on a trip from work to home which would normally show 45mpg. I did that on my PD130 Ibiza. It had a (poo) remap and I experimented with differing resistances across the fuel temp sender, MPG I got was a...

Re: Shock & springs - Bilstein VS KW

I had the B12 kit, but ended up ditching the springs and returning to the OE Sport springs with B8 dampers. The springs in the Bilstein kit were slightly lower, but actually quite soft, and I kept bottoming out. The sport springs work far better, plus they look OE which is what I want. For me, it's ...

I had mine done by Simon, I specifically asked for a revised map with a slightly less aggressive torque peak low down to prevent any clutch slip, but normal increases throughout the rest of the rev range. Had it RR'd a few years back at Awesome, results are still on their site here (3rd down on the ...

Re: AWX TDI syncro angle question(s)

Off work today, so I thought I'd have a look. With engine warm, I found the value was fluctuating between -3.3 and -2.8. So whipped off the cambelt cover, undid the 3 small bolts, and tweaked the cam a bit (by using an 18mm spanner on the central bolt). Tightened up, restarted, rechecked. Now -8 :D ...

Re: Brake bleeding - any recommendations?

If you're on your own and want to get more pressure than the Eezibleed provides, you can always use the Eezibleed with a lowish pressure to make sure no air gets back in, but then go and pump the pedal yourself to your heart's content, I'm sure pedal pressure generates a lot more PSI in the fluid. G...

Interesting. Might have a check of this myself. I changed my cambelt some time back, used the locking tools etc, but never knew you could follow this procedure to fine tune.

Presumably the same syncro angles apply to the AVF engine.

Well, I bought that "H" suffix pump off Ebay, and it arrived the other day. Not had a chance to fit yet, looks like it needs a thorough clean out too first. Anyway, I have noticed that the vacuum take-off pipe appears to be a rigid connection on this one. Feels solid, and a quick look sugg...

I thought they did ? I've noticed both my B5.5 TDI 130 Passats start providing warm air to the vents reasonably quickly. Certainly a *lot* more quickly than my Ibiza which also had a PD130 engine, which I know for sure didn't have any auxiliary heating. That used to take miles of shivering driving b...

Plenty of "A"s and "E"s available.
