i painted my engine cover with wrinkle black engine paint
straight onto the plastic cover
its been ok and no flaking off

update
car seams to be running ok
better fuel consumption
better mid range and low end power from the airbox mod
also the stalling has stopped
it must have been the airflow meter plug not connecting properly
now the plug and wires were pushed through the rubber on top of the airbox

Well took the airbox out and all pipes in there look ok The only thing I can think of is the rubber that holds the wires for the airflox meter was very close to the plug So maybe the plugs was being pulled out slightly So its been pulled up the wires and it seams to be ok now So fingers crossed But ...

I have hooked vagcom up and tried the engine but it says too many connection errors
Would removing the baffle inside the box make a difference

Get a s14nissan 200sx downpipe and weld that to your exhaust/downpipe and use the turbo elbow that came with the turbo

I tried to do my own airbox mod I removed the airbox and drilled about 10 holes of 25mm in the front of the lower half And removed the baffle section inside Also plumbed some cold air pipes from the bumper to the front of the airbox Since then on start up the engine revs are not smooth Jumping from ...

Yeah still got cat and centre box
Not loud at all
Just more than standard
When I had no cat every time I changed gear a loud pop and flame from pipe
Now gone
Centre box keeps it quiet

its better than pictures
they dont do it justice
paint is supposed to be for high temp like rocker covers and engines
just making the car stink inside for a few days lol

i did take the old lock apart before and try to resolder all the contacts but that didnt work

I had similar problem
And it turned to be a wire rubbing on the ac pulley
I must have knocked loose when fitting a dump valve
Have a look around the pump to see if that's your problem
Other wise get the pump disconected and try again
Also ac fan on rad could be seized
