If there is a CEL there have to be a fault code also! I have no idea what CEL is lol. I hope the mechanic never charged you for diagnosing the unknown error :hyst . You need to get it connected to VAG-COM and that will give you the fault code. he was more than likely using a generic fault code read...

But if it involves some custom pipe work then i would not bother to use those oem ones as you can get some better looking tips and also theres a big choice of aftermarket ones depending on the size you need. Do you want to use OEM rear mufflers from 3.6? And i think its the easiest part for some exhaust builder to match the rear sections with the mid pipes if they are fitting there without a problem.
