I think the passat is greatly underrated , I still enjoy driving mine after seven years of ownership, sure they have their problems but when everything is how it should be driving them is a pleasure. make sure your clutch is in tip top condition, mines lasted two days after my remap, although that was probably due to the 240k miles on the original one!
as far as I`m aware, there`s no way an insurance company could tell if your car`s been remapped!

if they`re good enough to clean (& condition) your pride and joys backside, car seats, ha! no problem!
