Re: Fuel flap problems
I forgot to mention that I did check some fuses and did not find any problems. but again, the Haynes manual fuse layouts are nothing like mine so I'm a little unsure if I have checked the right ones so I think I have checked them all including the engine compartment and the one near the drivers door...

Re: Fuel flap problems
Thanks Mitch, I did wonder if the control unit in the door was faulty as there were several pins missing, so I purchased a replacement on ebay to try (it was cheap!) but that also has some missing pins!. I know the wiring in the door from the two switches to the door control unit are OK. It was inte...

Re: Fuel flap problems
Apologies, it is not a courtesy module but it is a Convenience module, my mistake, although the two door switches are fed from the driver's door control unit which I believe is fed from the Convenience module !

Fuel flap problems
I have a 2008 VW Passat Estate Highline 2 litre. When I bought i was told the air/con did not work, but I did not worry as I only use the car for dog walking and there is always a window to open! However, I have had problems re-leasing the fuel filler flap until recently when the switch in the drive...

Re: Fuel cap issue
I realise the initial posting is quite old but I am now having similar problems with my B6 Estate as neither of the switches work now. I managed to open up the drivers door trim and remove the wiring connector for the two switches ie fuel filler flap and tailgate release I shorted out each of the sw...

Re: Replacement key circuit board
Hi, is it possible to purchase the "small glass bit" so I can have a second key complete?
If so, would it need to be recoded or similar?

And I forgot to add that the radio is still working, so whether it was necessary to use the jump leads, who knows.

Re: Replacing car battery
Today was much better ! I had contemplated removing the air mass meter/air filter but the catch for the electrical connections was broken and not able to disconnect, so back to square one  I searched through my toolbox and found a long 13mm ring spanner and managed to undo the bolt. Maybe the ...

Re: Replacing car battery
Hi guys, I did have a go this afternoon before I read the latest 'threads' from Maclee and Loki and I was using my jump leads that have crocodile clips on both ends of each cable, and connected up to our other car. Whilst that worked a treat, my problem was removing the old battery. At first, I coul...

Re: Replacing car battery
Thanks Alan, looks like I may be over cautious but better safe than sorry.
Like you I have changed many batteries in my time but my B6 Passat is the youngest I have ever had and I wasn't sure. Let's hope there is something that keeps a little bit of charge for the radio.

Replacing car battery
I am about to replace my car battery but does any one know if I have to take any special precautions when disconnecting the old old and replacing the new one? I have bought an Exide Premium EA 770 that will be delivered tomorrow but I'm not sure if I have to keep a connection to the car electrics li...

Re: Timing chain service life / replacement. 2.0 TFSI Sport Auto
I don't know the answer although I have 2008 B6 Highline Passat and always thought I had a timing belt, but may be best to visit your local VW garage and see what they say.

Re: Key fob signal weak?
Thanks for the info. I had another look on the web and found a couple of places that sell fobs complete with electronics although they do state the chip would need reprogramming etc and there are two different types of chip, but £25-£35 is a lot better than VW prices!

Thanks for that but I did buy a replacement fob, and used the replacement switches they provided, although it does not have any electronics inside!!! Did yours have electronics?

Re: Key fob prolem
Mad Mitch did mention changing the immobiliser in the fob. I presume it is the item that is just above the circuit board. Are these readily available? If so, would I need to get it reprogrammed?

Re: Key fob prolem
I opened the key fob and realised the top and bottom microswitches did not make a 'click', whereas them middle switch did. I replaced the quiet two but it did not make any difference, I still have to stand next to the car to lock or unlock the doors, although they do operate quicker than before! Doe...

Re: Key fob signal weak?
Hi, although the microswitches looked reasonable, both the locking one and the opening one did not seem to make a slight 'click' when depressed unlike the boot one although that one is seldom used! Consequently I replaced both the 'silent' ones. Despite using too much solder initially, I eventually ...

Is old diesel still usable?
I have a 25 litre jerry can full of diesel that I bought 2 or 3 years ago but can I simply use it on my Passat whilst there is current trouble getting fuel from filling stations?
If not, is there anything I can do with it other than taking it to the tip?

Re: Key fob signal weak?
I've been away so sorry for not replying earlier.
As far as an after market alarm, I haven't seen any evidence of one but I will try re-soldering the micro switches. If that doesn't work I will try to replace those switches.
Wish me luck

Key fob signal weak?
Hi Guys, I have a 'minor' problem that someone may be able to point me in the right direction. I can only get the key fob to operate if I am standing right next to the car, whereas I have seen videos on Youtube where the key fob appears to work some 30 or more metres away. All three buttons on my ke...

Re: Seat belt fixing bolt
Well I managed to remove the bolt \m/ \m/ Using the left hand drills, I managed to drill a small hole but gradually increase the size until I could insert some old tools I had (Easyouts) which bit into the bolt and successfully remove it. :hyst :hyst Now I will give the area under the seats a good v...
