Cold starting issue!

This is weird on the odd ocassion the car will take whatr seems forever to start! It seems like it not going to start but always does.

Now the first suspect would be glow plugs but it was recently in VW and got a new compression sensing plug and new wiring (due to an Arnold Clark balls up) at that poin the eml was on!

So I'm thinking this car is keyless start so should the ignition be turned on prior to just holding the brake pedal and pressing start? Maybe giving the glow plugs more time to heat up?
