P1619 code

Hi all,

I've had my B5.5 for over 18 years...not my daily though. About 155k miles and 1.9 AWX Highline Saloon.

I had available a SnapOn code reader today, so plugged it into the Passat.

P1619 has come up. "Glow Plug Relay (J52) Open or Short To Ground P1619 - Intermittent"


Related or not, I've noticed when I turn the key fully on, there is sometimes a 2 or 3 second delay before it cranks over. The car starts fine and not lumpy once it's fired up. The delay before it cranks seems to be after it's been sat for several days, I fitted a brand new Varta battery, but it does still delay cranking. If used every day, it cranks straightaway, starts perfectly.

Is the relay under the dash near the steering wheel?
