2008 Passat Expected fuel Economy

Had my 08 2.0 TDI 140bhp for just over a week now. Got to say I'm very impressed overall, Solidity, build quality and driving experience all top notch. One big reason for buying the car was expected fuel economy from the 2.0 TDI engine. I've just returned after a week away and have covered almost 1k miles. Economy averaged out at around 44mpg which, whilst not bad, is a little down on what I was expecting after such a trip. Most of the miles were done at around 75 or below and not a great deal of urban driving in there. So is this about right.
